2011 Fall Semester Opening Ceremony held

The opening ceremony of 2011 Fall Semester of Overseas Education College was held on 7th Sept. morning. Over 300 overseas students and the teachers gathered together in Lianxing Building.
This ceremony was hosted by Ms. Zeng kungyu, the Secretary of Party General Branch of OEC. Prof. Geng hu, Vice-President of OEC, made a greeting speech to welcome the new students. He reviewed the history of XMU and introduced the strengths of OEC in Chinese teaching and cultural diffusion. XMU enjoys the benefits both of geographic location and cultural heritage. Besides, the highly qualified and experienced teachers and advanced equipments in OEC make XMU a highly recommended place to study Chinese language and Chinese culture.
Prof. Wang Hong, the Japanese institute director, shared his years of overseas experiences with the new students. He asked the students to learn Chinese language and culture both from and off the class. He said that the practice in daily life could promote their study. Concerning the culture shock, he suggested the new students to experience the culture with an open, gentle and reverent attitude.
Zhou Zilong, the American students from SDSU made a speech as the student representative. He quoted the idiom "shū tú tóng guī", which means reach the same goal by different routes, as a metaphor to describe the gathering of those overseas students in XMU. He said that they should progress together hand in hand henceforth.
Police officer Chen from the division of entry-exit administration of the public security bureau introduced the laws and regulations that the overseas students should abide by in China. He offered help in need as well.
Finally, Ms. Han Zhen introduced the curriculum, the way for class grouping and how to purchase the textbooks. Then she wished all the students a pleasant opening.
